Oh Christmas Branch, Ohhhhh Christmas Branch… How Lovely are Your Needles
Mama and Daddy wanted for me to pick out our family Christmas tree, but instead I picked out this little branch. It is just my size— the right size to fit in my hand. I have had it ever since we picked out our tree and have been carrying it around the house. The nice man at Lowe’s who cut our big tree didn’t even charge Daddy for it even though I walked right out with it.
Now it is mine and mine alone—my own piece of Christmas. The tree is really pretty and bright, but I like my little branch much better. Mama said something about me having a little “Charlie Brown tree” and told me that I would understand later on when I am bigger. For now, though, I think that I will just hug onto my little branch and call him my own.
“I’ll take this little tree home and decorate it. And I’ll show ’em, it really will work. Besides, I think it needs me.” — A Charlie Brown Christmas
